I have lived both ends of the spectrum. Life being chaos from the moment my eyes open up right up until I finally crash from utter exhaustion. I also know what its like to float through each day having a plan, a purpose and being able to wipe away what doesn’t align with that.  I choose every day to allow my life to fall into the latter specifically because it feels right. I mean if you could stay high vibe, focused + sluff off the chaos everyday wouldn’t you want to?

Good news, you can!

It comes to developing a morning routine.

This is what worked for me anyways. Let me show you.

A day in the life 5 years ago….
I would wake up at 5am and fly out of bed, quickly grabbing a cup of coffee as fast as I let anxiety fill me up and I was out the door to my first job. The thought of food didn’t cross my mind until after noon when I was already plugged into my second job for 3 hours, so exhausted and hangry I couldn’t think straight. And I used to be proud of this. I would rip home, throw something out of a box and into the oven for supper, slam some water and head out to my third job, returning just before bed time, and just in time to take all my insecurities and stressors I allowed to work me up all day out on my boyfriend. More often than not we’d have an argument before bed or we would be returning to the one that ensued before I ran out the door earlier that morning.
Looking back it was litteral hell, but it was also all I knew. To make things crazier, even though all we both did was ever work, we were always broke…

Fast forward and this is what my day looks like now...
I wake up somewhere between 6 and 7am. Sometimes earlier + sometimes later. Sometimes I don’t even set an alarm. I roll out of bed, and spend a few moments of laughter with my husband before he heads to work. I drink a big glass of water, make a smoothie head to my altar where I read, write, tune into my body + move it in a way that feels good. This is truly healing for me. I hop on a call with our team + have a coffee with their presence. I make a ‘second breakfast’ + dive into work after, creating things that make my soul feel alive and help people along the way. I spend my day taking pauses, going for walks, moving my body. When my husband gets home we cook + clean together so we have energy to do it again tomorrow. Both good food and fresh spaces give us life! We spend some time together in the evenings and then both part to dive into our wind down routines and off to bed before 9:30PM
I share all of this with you to show you the change. Even reading I am sure you feel a difference in the energy. I still get so surprised look back at who I was and how far I've come!
What created the change? These are the two SAME people in both scenarios but they are completely different.

It comes back to my morning routine. This has been fundamental in the way I approach my day. How you spend your morning + what you allow in WILL follow you through the whole day. If you find yourself in a pattern of having really shitty days, or getting filled with anxiety before the sun comes up like I was you might want to sit back and really look at how you can evolve your mornings so you win your day. Below are a few simple things I started to add to my mornings. I didn’t add them in all at once. I experimented with them day by day and just kept checking in to see which helped me best. And I encourage you to do the same.
  • Make my bed as soon as I get out of it
  • Oil pulling
  • Drink water before anything else
  • Drink a smoothie before coffee
  • Get my diffusers running
  • Stretch / restorative yoga
  • Write + ask myself mind expanding questions
  • Meditaite
  • Put on essential oils
  • Get dressed and ready for the day (yes even if I am staying home)
  • Say affirmations OUT LOUD
  • Play music (maybe just on my ukulele, maybe on my speaker + have a dance party)
  • Pick out 3 things I want to accomplish that day and mark them as my priority
  • Send 3 txts of gratitude
  • Eat a nourishing breakfast
Now maybe your looking at this list a feeling overwhelmed. Like ‘How am I supposed to do all of that and have a life” I'm not saying to add them all into your day. That’s not realistic. Sit here and ask yourself which one speaks to you most? And when you wake up tomorrow do that one thing. Sit back and celebrate that you are starting your day off 1% better than before and that’s your turning point. Remember I didn’t develop a perfect to me morning routine overnight this has been years in the making! But you have to start.

If you feel you already have a great morning routine that’s excellent! Expand on it! You can never pour into yourself to much! It only lets your light shine brighter!

Having a morning routine doesn't have to be rocket science. It should just feel GOOD! As you feel good you will naturally start to align with other things that feel good and before you know it your days will be filled with things that (you guessed it) FEEL GOOD! Do the work + have some faith, it does all come together.

As you start to experiment with these morning rituals share it in your social media and tag me @chaylene.costa so we can celebrate that YOU my friend are transforming your life!

  1. I could definitely feel the change in your energy as I read this! I love your suggestions to get started on transforming mornings, (the dance party one spoke to me most LOL) for a long time I have HATED mornings and am still working on switching that energy. Looking forward to working with you on this!
